Arlo Ultra 2 is a 4K resolution wireless camera from Arlo that comes equipped with advanced video and audio quality features. It helps you get a wide, panoramic view with enhanced color night vision for added ease. The camera also features an integrated spotlight to light up the night vision and ward off intruders. You can thus make use of all these features once you have set things up. This blog will discuss ways you can set up your Arlo Ultra 2 spotlight camera easily.

Arlo Ultra 2 wireless security camera setup

The setup process for the Arlo Ultra 2 begins with downloading the Arlo app. You can then create an Arlo account and add your camera to begin managing it easily. Below are the steps you can follow-

Install the Arlo App

  • To start with, download and install the latest Arlo app from your device’s application store. Once downloaded, you can install it on your smartphone.
  • Now, launch the app and create an Arlo account. You will be using the same account to manage all your Arlo cameras and devices.
  • Furthermore, the Arlo account can be accessed using the default web address my.arlo.com as well. You can type the same in the address bar of a browser and proceed with the login steps.

Connecting the Arlo SmartHub

The Arlo Ultra 2 Spotlight camera uses a SmartHub or BaseStation to connect to the internet. You can connect the two using an ethernet cable. once connected, the base station will allow you to save video recordings locally and also facilitate network coverage to the main cameras. Here are some steps you can follow to connect your camera to the Arlo base Station.

  • Connect the Arlo SmartHub to your wireless router using an ethernet cable. Plug one end of the cable into the ethernet port on your router and the other end into the LAN port on your SmartHub device.

Powering your Arlo Ultra 2 Camera

Your Arlo Ultra 2 Spotlight Camera consists of two parts-

●     The camera with the battery

●     The camera housing

The main housing is the outer plastic casing that surrounds the inner body and protects the main components from damage. The inner portion houses the battery and all other electronic components along with the camera lens. You can follow the mentioned steps to power your Arlo camera-

  • You can power your camera by inserting the battery into its respective compartment. Once you have inserted the battery into your Arlo Ultra, the camera will blink blue.
  • Now, insert the camera into the camera housing securely. You can push down the camera on the left and right till the same clicks into place.

If the LED on the front of the camera is amber, it means the battery level is low and you should charge it. Once you connect the camera to the charger, the LED on the camera will flash blue. It will turn to solid blue once the battery is fully charged.

Mount your Arlo Ultra 2

Once the camera is ready, you can mount it at a preferred location. Make sure that the location is within the good signal range of the SmartHub device.

The Arlo camera should be installed at a maximum of 300 feet from the SmartHub. If you are still facing issues with the WiFi coverage, you can move the camera closer to where your router is. If you think the signal issues are due to interference from external factors, you can reduce the interference by removing any obstacles like thick walls, wireless devices, water tanks, etc. from near the smartHub and the camera. Try to maintain a clear line of sight communication between the devices.

Once you have decided on the location, you can use magnetic and outdoor mounts to install your Arlo camera. Ensure to secure the cameras into place so that there’s no issue during the camera’s movement.

Adjust the Camera’s field of view

The Arlo field of view is the area in which the camera can detect motion. You can adjust the same to full, wide, and super-wide settings. Each of these settings auto-corrects the image to reduce the fisheye effect and deliver the best viewing experience. The Arlo app itself holds the key to modifying the camera settings. You can navigate through different camera settings available in the app or also get access to the my.arlo.com web interface for the adjustment.

You can adjust the same using the steps discussed-

  • Launch the Arlo app on your smartphone.
  • Tap on the Settings icon and then go to the My Devices button.
  • Select the Arlo Ultra 2 Camera from the settings and tap Video Settings.
  • Now, select Video Mode from the next screen.
  • Tap a Field of View option to apply the view settings to the camera automatically.

Testing the Motion Detection feature

You can use the motion detection test to find the right motion sensitivity level for your Arlo Ultra 2 spotlight camera. This will help you avoid unwanted alerts and ensure that you are only notified about genuine intrusions. Here are some steps to follow-

  • Launch the Arlo app and go to the Settings menu.
  • Tap on My Devices and select the camera from the menu.
  • Tap on Device Utilities and then select Motion Detection Test from the screen.
  • You can now move in front of the camera to see if the motion detection feature works. If it does you’ll see the LED blink in amber.
  • Move the slider to adjust the motion sensitivity level as required.
  • You can also edit the rules so the camera enters the motion sensitivity level that you wish to use.
