Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight Camera Setup

The setup process for your Arlo Pro 3 camera begins with accessing the Arlo App. You can download it from your device’s application store. The app will walk you through some easy steps to configure the settings and complete the wifi setup as well.

Getting started

  • Connect your smartphone to the WiFi network at your home. This is the same smartphone you are using the Arlo app on, and the same WiFi network you’ll be connecting your Arlo Floodlight camera to.
  • Launch the Arlo app on your smartphone and set an Arlo account. Alternatively, you can also use the default web address https://my.arlo.com to create the same.
  • Select the Add Device button from the app and add your Arlo pro 3 floodlight camera to the account.

Preparing your camera

The Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight camera has two parts namely: the floodlight and the camera. Another section is the camera housing that protects the inner section. Before you proceed further, you’ll need to power your camera. Here are some steps you can follow:

  • Press the battery access button on the bottom of the camera. This will separate the camera from the main housing.
  • Insert the battery into the camera with the Arlo logo facing upwards.
  • Once you have inserted the battery, the LED on the front of the camera will blink blue.
  • When you wish to charge the battery, you can bring the camera indoors and use the USB charging cable and the power adapter that comes in the package.
  • Keep your floodlight camera separate from the housing while following the instructions on the app for WiFi setup.

Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight Camera WiFi Setup

You can connect your Arlo camera directly to the 2.4GHz band of your home wifi network. Alternatively, you can also connect the floodlight camera to a SmartHub or Base Station. If you are using a SmartHub, you have access to additional features like- 2K local streaming, Auto Zoom and Tracking, CVR(with a subscription), local storage options, remote access for SmartHubs, etc.

Now, to connect your Floodlight camera to the WiFi network at your home, here are some steps you can follow:

  • Unlock your smartphone and launch the device Settings.
  • Tap on Network and Internet and then head to the WiFi settings.
  • Turn on the WiFi on your smartphone. A list of the available wireless networks will appear.
  • Connect to the home WiFi network using the default credentials.
  • Now, launch the Arlo app and log in to the Arlo account that your Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight Camera is connected to.
  • Head to the Settings and then select the My Devices screen.
  • Select the floodlight from the list of the devices and scroll down to select Remove Device.
  • Again, head to the My Devices section and tap on Add New Device.
  • Select Cameras, then Pro and again Pro 3 Floodlight Camera from the list.
  • If you are using a SmartHub or BaseStation, the app will detect it and give you two options. Tap on Connect without SmartHub/Base Station to proceed directly.
  • Follow the Arlo App instructions now and the camera will connect to the 2.4GHz network band of your home wifi network.

Once your Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight Camera is connected, the LED on the same will begin to blink blue rapidly.

Mount your Arlo Floodlight Camera

After you have completed the WiFi setup, you can relocate your camera to an appropriate location. Select a point for your camera with a clear field of view. Also, ensure that this location has good WiFi coverage. The Arlo App will help you find the best location with good coverage.

When you have found the location, mount the floodlight at least 8-10 feet high from the ground. The face of the floodlight should be angled 40 degrees towards the ground such that it covers maximum visible area you wish to monitor.

Field of View

The field of view is the total area that the camera sees. You can set the video mode for your floodlight at Full, Wide and Super Wide. Also, your Arlo camera setup will automatically correct the image to reduce the fisheye effect for each field of view setting. You can change the video mode to select the appropriate field of view setting:

  • Launch the Arlo app.
  • Tap on Settings and then select My Devices from the menu.
  • Select the floodlight from the list and then tap Video Settings.
  • Here, select Video Mode and tap a field of view setting to apply it to the floodlight.

Motion Detection

The motion detection test can be used to find the right motion sensitivity setting for your Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight Camera setup. Here are some instructions you can follow:

  • Launch the Arlo app on your smartphone.
  • Tap on Settings and then select My Devices from the menu.
  • Select the floodlight from the list and then tap Device Utilities.
  • Here, select Motion Detection Test.
  • You can now move in front of the camera to see if the LED blinks in amber. You can move the slider you see on the screen to adjust the motion sensitivity level as required.
  • Once you are ok with the setting, note it so the same can be added to the rules.
  • You can now edit the rule for your camera so it enters the motion sensitivity level you are looking to use.
