You can use a rechargeable battery to power them and connect them to the wifi network at your home and start leveraging features like motion detection, notifications, alerts, and live video from the phone to get a better picture. If you have recently upgraded to one of these devices, and are looking for help with setting things up, this blog will help you with the same. You will find complete details on the Arlo Video Doorbell Setup process.

Beginning with the Setup

The video doorbell can be installed after you have inserted the batteries and charged them. To charge the battery, connect it to the USB charging cable that came with the package. Once the battery is charged to 100%, you’ll see the LED lights turn green. You can then follow the rest of the steps to configure the Arlo camera settings.

Creating an Arlo account

In order to install your Arlo video doorbell setup, you’ll need to create an Arlo account. You can download and install the app on your smartphone and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup process. Once the account is ready, you can access it using the Arlo app or smartphone. If you are using a web browser, the my.arlo.com web address can help you access the account.

Connect your smartphone to the 2.4GHz wifi network band

Your smartphone and the Arlo video doorbell must be connected to the same wireless network. Also, it is important to note that Arlo devices only work on the 2.4GHz network band. Therefore, both your video doorbell and the smartphone will need to be connected to the 2.4GHz network band of your home wifi network.

To connect your smartphone to the same, here are some steps you can follow:

  • Launch the Settings page on your smartphone.
  • Tap on WiFi near the top of the screen.
  • Enable WiFi and wait for the list of networks to pop up.
  • Select the 2.4GHz network band of your home network from the list and type in the password to connect to it.

Mount your Doorbell

It is important that you install your Arlo Video doorbell Setup at a location with a complete view of the front entry or doorway. Here are some points you can keep in mind when mounting your doorbell:

  • Place the doorbell about 4ft above the ground while ensuring that the walls and objects do not obstruct the view. The lower half of the camera’s field of view is the motion-sensitive part. The doorbell will begin recording when it detects motion here.
  • Once decided on the location, you can follow these steps to mount your doorbell:
  • Place the mounting plate on the wall where you wish to mount your doorbell. Decide if your wish to use the angled mounting plate or not, so you can adjust the area your doorbell faces.
  • Use a 6mm drill bit to drill two holes and align the mounting plate with the two holes in the wall.
  • While holding the mounting plate over the two holes, use a screwdriver to fix the two screws in place. Now, place the doorbell on the mounting plate in a down and in motion. Once the doorbell is secured, you’ll hear a click sound.

Testing Motion Detection

You can use the motion detection test to find if the setting is right for your Arlo doorbell setup. Here are some steps you can follow:

  • Launch the Arlo app and tap on the gear icon next to the Video Doorbell icon.
  • Tap on Device Utilities and then select the Motion Detection Test option.
  • Move to the front of the camera. During this test, the camera LED will blink white if the doorbell is able to detect motion.
  • You can move the slider to adjust the motion sensitivity level as per your need.
  • Once the setting is finalized, edit the mode rule to change the sensitivity level as per your preferred settings so it takes effect.

Customizing Arlo Video Doorbell Setup Settings

You can control the rules that your doorbell uses to record and alert you by selecting a mode. You can also arm or disarm all your Arlo devices using modes. Your Arlo app supports four modes:

  • Armed,
  • Disarmed,
  • Schedule, and
  • Geofencing.

You can customize each of these modes and create custom modes as well.

Chime options

Your Arlo Video Doorbell Setup provides several chime options. You can connect your doorbell to an Arlo Chime 2, a traditional chime, or the smart home voice assistant system to hear a ring whenever someone presses your doorbell. If you have an Arlo Chrome with you, you can connect your Arlo Video Doorbell setup to it. Once the Chime is connected, a ring will play whenever someone presses the video doorbell. Here are some steps you can follow:

  • Firstly, Launch the Arlo app and tap on the Settings option.
  • Head to the My Devices section and select the Arlo Essential Video Doorbell from the menu.
  • Then Scroll to the bottom of the Device Settings and tap on the Add Chime button.
  • You can now follow the Arlo App to connect your Arlo Chime.
  • Once it is connected, the chime will appear under Paired Devices section under the Device Settings page.
