The Arlo Q camera is an indoor surveillance device that can also be used as a webcam for live streaming purposes. Compact and easy to use, this camera can help you access live footage and save it on the cloud. If you have recently purchased a new Arlo Q camera, this blog will walk you through the complete steps to set it up.

Configuring the Arlo Q Camera is easy with the Arlo app and my.arlo.com web interface at your disposal. You can use any of the two methods to complete the setup process as the steps remain the same.

Setup Arlo Q Cam

Your Arlo Q camera can be set up in a few steps. You can start by downloading the Arlo app and using it to create an Arlo account. The same can be used to connect your camera to the wireless network at your home. You can also watch videos from an internet-connected computer or smartphone and use the Arlo app to set up and manage the camera settings easily.

The setup steps will involve connecting your Arlo Q camera to the internet using a WiFi connection. To do so, here are some steps you can follow-

  • Connect a micro-USB cable to the connector port at the back of the camera. Connect the other end of the cable to a power adapter.
  • Plug the power adapter into a power outlet and wait for the camera LED to blink amber.
  • Connect your smartphone to the wireless network that you’re looking to connect your Arlo Q camera.
  • You can now open the Arlo app on your smartphone. Alternatively, you can use the web address http://my.arlo.com to reach the Arlo login page.
  • If your smartphone uses a touch ID for fingerprint recognition, you’ll see a prompt to enable the TouchID for the Arlo app as well.
  • In order to use the Touch ID, you can tap on the Enable Touch ID button.
  • Now, tap on New to Arlo? button and a list of cameras will appear.
  • Tap or click on the Arlo Q camera that you wish to set up.
  • Power on your Arlo Q camera now. Plug it into a power outlet and wait until the LED starts to flash in amber. When it starts blinking slowly, it is an indication that the Arlo Q camera is ready for setup.

Positioning your Arlo Q Camera

When positioning your Arlo Q camera, you can follow the mentioned tips-

  • Do not place your camera in a location where light from external sources shines directly on the lens.
  • You can configure your Arlo Q camera to monitor a part of the total image and only detect motion in a particular area.
  • Keep the sensitive areas inside the camera’s field of view. With a 130-degree viewing angle, position your camera such that you can monitor the area easily.
  • Live stream the video recording from your Arlo camera for help with the camera positioning. You can then make real-time adjustments to find the best field of view.

Mounting your Arlo Q camera

You can place the Arlo Q camera on a shelf or a table-like flat surface. Alternatively, you can also mount the same on a wall. You can use the equipment that arrives with the package to mount the camera securely onto the wall. Here are some steps you can follow-

  • Separate the mounting plate from the camera base.
  • Place the wall plate on the desired spot and secure it in place with the help of four screws.
  • Fix the camera on the wall plate and make sure it connects securely.

Once that is done, you can start recording videos. Additionally, you can also set the motion sensitivity level to avoid unwanted alerts about motion detection.

Set Motion Sensitivity

Once you have defined the motion-sensitive areas in Arlo Q’s field of view, you can change the sensitivity level accordingly. Here are some steps you can follow-

  • Launch the Arlo app on your smartphone. If you wish, you can use the default Arlo login page my.arlo.com to sign in to the Arlo account.
  • Once you log in, go to “My Devices” and the list of devices will appear.
  • Tap on the Mode button and then select the Arlo Q camera from the list.

  • The Motion Detection settings page will now appear on the screen.
  • You can now move the slider to adjust the sensitivity level for motion detection on your Arlo Q camera. If you use a smartphone to specify the settings, the settings will get saved automatically. However, if you are using a browser, you’ll need to click on the Save button manually.
