Arlo Camera Wifi Setup

Arlo Camera Wifi Setup And Connections

When installing and setting up your arlo camera, the myarlo app or the my.arlo.com web page guides you through the entire wifi connection process. With the help of these instructions, you can easily connect your camera to your home router’s 2.4GHz network band. Alternatively, you can also use the Arlo SmartHub or Base Station to connect to your Arlo camera. This blog will brief you about the Arlo camera wifi setup and connections you can build with the SmartHub or base station.

Arlo camera wifi setup- Options

When you install your camera, you can connect it to the router’s 2.4GHz network band directly. Or, you may choose to connect the camera with wifi to an Arlo Smarthub model VMB5000 & VMB4540 or base station model VMB4500 & VMB4000. The Arlo SmartHub or base station doesn’t come inclusive in the Arlo camera package. You will need to purchase them separately. Using your Arlo camera with the SmartHub or Base Station installed will give you access to some additional features:

  • You can use local storage on an SD card in a VMB5000 SmartHub model or on a USB storage device connected to the SmartHub VMB4540 or a base station VMB4500/VMB4000.
  • You can also use direct storage access for SmartHubs VMB5000 and VMB4540.

Once you are done installing and setting up your camera, you can move the WiFi connection from the router to the SmartHub or Base Station. You can further move your camera’s WiFi connection from the SmartHub or Base Station to the router’s 2.4GHz network band. However, in order to do that, you’ll need to remove the Arlo camera from your account and reconfigure the same using the Arlo camera setup wizard.

Connecting to the 2.4GHz router network

If you are looking to connect your Arlo camera directly to your router’s WiFi network, it is important to understand that the mobile device must connect to the same WiFi network as your Arlo camera during the setup. Also, your Arlo camera can only connect to the 2.4GHz band. Many wifi routers broadcast WiFi networks in dual bands. Hence it is possible that your smartphone connects to the 5GHz one instead of the 2.4. If you are facing issues connecting to the camera through the myarlo app, or accessing the my.arlo.com login page, check which network band your phone is connected to. Connect it to the 2.4GHz band that connects to the Arlo app.

Finding the 2.4GHz network’s name and password

The router’s 2.4GHz network name and password can be located by logging in to the settings wizard. Once confirmed, you can open the WiFi settings on your smartphone or computer that you are using and locate the SSID in the available networks section. In cases where you are using a mesh network, the network bands might take up similar SSIDs. You might want to differentiate the SSIDs by logging in to the mesh router’s setup wizard.
