Installing your Arlo Pro 4 Camera Setup at home

The Arlo Pro 4 spotlight camera setup is the wire-free model by Arlo. The camera connects directly to the WiFi network unlike the rest of the models where you need to connect to the SmartHub first. With zero wires included, installing the camera is a matter of minutes. Furthermore, additional features like color night vision, integrated spotlight, and a comparatively wider field of view ensure that your home stays protected at all times. Downloading the Arlo app

Arlo Pro 4 installation and setup is made easier using the free Arlo app. You can download and install the same on your smartphone. Open the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store and search for the Arlo app. Once you are there, install the same.

If you already have the app installed, make sure it is updated to the latest version.

  • Once installed, launch the app and create an Arlo account.
  • Once you have set up an account, you can access it from the App or a web browser as well. In the latter case, you can use the http://my.arlo.com web address.
  • Once you log in to the Arlo account page, you can connect to the WiFi network easily and select the Add New Device option to add your Arlo Pro 4 camera to the account.

Powering your Arlo Pro 4 camera

The Arlo Pro 4 spotlight camera uses batteries to operate. You can also use Arlo-provided batteries to power your camera. The batteries that come with the package are charged partially. Therefore, it is recommended that you charge them to the full before inserting them into the camera. Once you’re ready, you can proceed with the following steps-

  • Firstly, remove the camera housing from the camera. Align the battery and insert it into the battery compartment. The battery inserts one way and once in place, the LED on the camera will blink in blue automatically.
  • Next, insert the camera into the camera housing by pushing down on the left and right sides and making sure it clicks into place.
  • The color on the LED of the camera will show its respective status.

Mounting the camera

Once the batteries are inserted, you can find a location for your camera to be installed so as to fully optimize the field of view. You can choose a location where the signal strength is strong. Refer to the Arlo app to check the WiFi signal strength.

Now, to mount your Arlo Pro 4 camera, you can use the magnetic wall mount or optional outdoor mounts that are sold separately. Installing the camera about 5-7 feet above the ground is recommended. You can first fix the mount on the wall using screws and ensure they don’t break.

Adjusting the field of view

The field of view is the area which the camera can cover or detect motion in. You can set the view from full i.e. 110 degrees to wide at 125 up to 160 degrees. The camera will also automatically correct the image to reduce the fisheye effect.

If you wish to change the field of view, you can follow these steps:

  • To start with, launch the Arlo app on your smartphone.
  • Go to the Settings menu and tap on the My Devices option.
  • Select the camera model from the menu and tap on the Video Settings button.
  • Here, select Video Mode and tap a field of view to automatically apply it to the camera.

You can further position your camera to detect motion in areas you wish to monitor consistently. The Camera Positioning feature can help you do that easily. To position your camera, you can follow the steps below-

  • Launch the Arlo app and tap on the Settings option.
  • Here, select My Devices and select the Arlo Pro 4 camera from the list.
  • Now, tap on the Device Utilities and select Camera Positioning.

The camera will now start streaming video and the signal strength bar will indicate the WiFi signal that your Arlo spotlight camera setup is receiving at the location.

Testing Motion Detection

You can use the motion detection test to find the motion sensitivity level for your Arlo Pro 4 Spotlight Camera. Here are some steps you can follow-

  • Launch the Arlo app and tap on the Settings button.
  • Here, select the My Devices option and select your camera model from the list.
  • Tap on the Device Utilities option and click on the Motion Detection Test.
  • You can now move in front of your camera to check if the camera is detecting motion. If the LED on the camera blinks amber, it is an indication that the motion detection feature is working.
  • You can move the slider to adjust the motion sensitivity level as needed. Once done, edit the rules for your camera to select the level that works for you.

You can now arm your camera to make sure it detects motion after installation is complete.

Connecting Arlo Pro 4 to the WiFi network

The Arlo Pro 4 spotlight camera works with the 2.4GHz network band of a wifi network. Before you start, you can collect the details pertaining to the network. These will include the SSID, password, and network encryption type. Here are some steps you can follow to connect your Arlo camera to the wifi connection at your home-

  • Connect your smartphone or wireless device to the 2.4GHz network band of your wifi network.
  • Launch the Arlo app and log in to the Arlo account that your Arlo Pro 4 is connected to.
  • Now, tap on the Settings option and select the My Devices option.
  • Select the Arlo Pro 4 from the list and scroll down to select Remove Device.
  • Now, re-add the camera to the account using the Add New Device option.
  • Next, select the respective option viz. Connect without SmartHub/BaseStation.
  • Follow the on-screen app instructions to connect the camera directly to the 2.4GHz wireless network band.
